Sheikha Tunazar Muhammad Mustafa al-Najuli from Egypt passed away this January at the age of 97.
Due to measles she had lost her eyesight too but this didn't stop her. She recited and taught the Quran for 70 years of he life in the ten Qira'at of the holy Quran.
Students from across Egypt and the wider world would come to her humble home to recite the Quran to her. In her small room 2 x 3 meters she would sit on mats and listen and correct students that came to recite.
Her student Ahmed al-Sharqawi said "She was strong, soft and kind at the same time. You find that she does not leave you to make a mistake and explains the aspect and the difference between the ten reciters"
MAY ALLAH HAVE MERCY ON HER AND GRANT HER JANNAH, AMEEN.
She passed away this January at the age of 97, Sheikha Tunazar Muhammad Mustafa al-Najuli. You should all know about her and she should be an inspiration to all of us, May Allah have mercy on her and grant her Jannatul firdaws, Ameen.
I'm very surprised why this didn't make it to English speaking social media pages, since I know many scholars in Egypt and outside of Egypt have spoken very well about her after she passed away but it's only been on Arabic social media.
So I thought this information should be known outside the Arab world too because she is inspirational. For 70 years she recited and taught the Quran in the ten Qira'at (readings) of the Quran. You don't see this often but men would come to her to learn from her and recite to her. It reminds me of the hadiths of the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) when men would come to learn from them. This would be done behind a veil.
Students would come to her small humble home in Egypt and she would sit on the mats her in her small room and would listen to them reciting the Quran, teaching them, and correcting and explaining to them behind a veil. Even at this old age and despite losing her eyesight.
