US LAWMAKERS AND ACTIVISTS ARE HUNGER STRIKING FOR A PERMANENT CEASEFIRE
A group of over a dozen prominent leaders began a hunger strike outside the White House to advocate for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The group includes community activists, like actor Cynthia Nixon, and several US lawmakers, including Delaware State Rep. Madinah Wilson-Anton, New York Rep. Zohran Mamdani, Oklahoma Rep. Mauree Turner, Virginia Rep. Sam Rasoul, and Michigan Rep. Abraham Aiyash.
Speaking in front of the White House, the group pledged to stop eating for up to five days to bring attention to the fact that the US has backed Israel’s indiscriminate bombing of Palestinians in Gaza and enabled Israel’s denial of food and clean water to 2.3 million people in Gaza for over 7 weeks, putting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians at risk of death from lack of food and water.
