Below photos narrate two sides of a same story
First is a picture of a non Muslim Student who refuses to receive the degree from Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero.
The other photos are that of Muslim degree holders who graduated from Colombo University receiving their degrees from the Chancellor thero
The appointment of the thero as the Chancellor of Colombo University raised many an eyebrow and created chaos. Many sinhalese graduates except few have refused to receive their degrees from the hands of thero as an objection for his appointment while perhaps all muslim graduates have not joined the boycot.
However, the decision of these Muslim graduates is praiseworthy as their refusal leaving aside that of all others may be used as a reason to create unnecessary misunderstanding and widen the rift between the two communities.
Its true. The politicised racist thero who does not qualify to be a chancellor deserves to be boycotted. Thus, their decision may sound coward. However, its a wise and farsighted decision. After all giving the due respect to those in position is what Islam preaches
