Greatest Footballer Mo Salah Celebrating Christmas
I'll start off with the saying of Umar ibn al-Khattab, one of the greatest companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said, "We judge by what is apparent". There is no "dont' judge me" or "don't judge him" in Islam.
Mo Salah is one of if not the greatest footballer in the world right now, there is no denying his footballing ability. There are millions of people across the world both muslim and non-muslim who love him and look up to him, some really idolise him.
Many muslims love seeing his success and seeing him make Sujood (prostration) after scoring a goal. So when you have a person that has influence over so many people doing acts like this you need to speak out. If it is a private sin between Mo Salah and his family that he did not publicise to the world then its none of our business, its between him and Allah. But its a different story when he celebrates Christmas like this publicly in front of millions of people as a Muslim of major influence.
There's many things to consider. Firstly Christmas if we go back to its origins has no relation to Christianity. It is a festival of Pagan origin celebrating some greek Gods that was later brought into Christianity hundreds of years after Jesus, and made it into the birth of Jesus. Historical evidence suggests Jesus wasn't even born in December. So it is a festival of Pagan origin. A Muslim should stay miles clear from it.
Secondly, if even we say it is a Christian festival, many Chrsiitians believe that Jesus was the son of God or God in flesh. Again, completely against any teachings of islam. Even if you were to say "its just a commercial festival", still its origins are in Pagan traditions and Christian beliefs regarding Jesus. The trees, mistletoe, presents, santa, all have Pagan origins.
Also, there are millions of young Muslims who look upto Mo Salah. People who are low on faith may see this and wonder, "If Mo Salah is doing it then why can't i do it too". Even non-muslims may think "If Mo Salah is celebrating christmas then why isn't this Muslim celebrating too". It is completely haram and impermissible. May Allah guide us all.
