Building bridges accross communities via Temples and Mosques
A discussion was organized by the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, under the theme 'How to work in collaboration with Buddhist and Muslim religious institutes to promote ethnic unity in the country’ was held through ZOOM from 09.00 am to 11:00 am on 10th June, 2021.
The following decisions were reached:
01. Teaching Sinhala to the Imams (Muslim Preachers) of the surrounding Mosques in the Kalaniya Division at Vidyalankara Pirivena, Kekaniya
02. Teaching Sinhala to the Imams of the surrounding Mosques at Colombo Campus of Buddhist and Pali University in Boudaloka Mawatha, Colombo 04
03. Jamiyyathul Ulama and District Mosques Committees are to support teaching Tamil to Buddhist Monks and Sinhala to Imams (Muslim Preachers) in all districts.
04. Conducting a discussion on the co-operation between District Mosques Committees and District Sasanaarakshaka Committees in these projects.
05. Buddhist monks and Imams make friendly visits to Buddhist Temples and mosques and exchange their knowledge about their respective religions.
06. South Eastern University of Sri Lanka is to support design and deliver Tamil courses for the monks

There were another more than 10 Muslim scholars also attended.
Ash Sheikh Hassan Maulana, Coordinator for Muslim Religious Affairs to Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Buddhist, Religious and Cultural Affairs Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Chief Internal Auditor of the Ministry Mr. Wimal Gamage and officials of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs were also present.
The event was moderated by Mr. A.B.M. Ashraff, the Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs.
