THE NEW YORK TIMES PUBLISHED THE NAMES AND FACES OF THE CHILDREN KILLED IN GAZA
Wow.
The New York Times published the names and faces of the children killed in Gaza. First of all, prayers to these 67 young victims and their families.
I’m surprised. This is a major shift, particularly after decades of skewed coverage and an institutionalized denial of humanizing the Palestinian people. Even children, who were dubbed “human shields” and “terrorists,” or even worst, altogether ignored in life and in death.
This shouldn’t be major news. But sadly, it is — decades into a struggle where the youngest of children were demonized and removed from the ledger of victimhood and the pages of basic acknowledgment.
But, perhaps a new day is upon us.
Please — take the time to look at their little faces, read their names, and see them as human beings worthy of coverage. And even more than just coverage, worthy of life.
It is heartbreaking to see so many young faces taken. Now the world can see it, front and center —on the front page of the most influential newspaper in the world.
Finally.
