Their relentless attacks against the Portuguese and their defense of the naval routes, proved so detrimental to the Portuguese vision that they resorted to spreading scandal against Kunjali Marikkar IV in a bid to convince the Zamorin of Calicut that he was secretly attempting to take over the Zamorin's kingdom.
The Zamorin allied with the Portuguese and attacked the forces of Marikkar IV, forcing the latter to surrender on the promise that their lives would be spared- a promise that was broken when the Portuguese killed him by torturing him and tearing him apart.
Later, he was avenged by the Zamorin who was grieved over the way in which he had been killed.
This is the story of a patriot, a man who fought and died for his country. This is the story of a Muslim. This is the story of an Indian whose father and grandfather and great grandfather also fought for the same cause that he did- protecting India from invaders. Protecting India's independence.
Would today's India honour him, as he should be honoured?
Or
Will they lynch him for being a "beef-eater"?
Will they throw him in prison for fighting for his rights?
Will they acknowledge him as an Indian citizen at all?
Or is nationalism the new patriotism?
