COMPULSORY CREMATION: PETITION TO THE CANADIAN PARLIAMENT TO FOCUS ON SRI LANKA'S ACTIVITIES
A petition was filed in the Canadian Parliament yesterday (23) regarding the cremation of the bodies of the victims of the COVID epidemic in Sri Lanka.
Canadian MP Salma Sashid addressed the petition.
Salma Sashid said the petition, signed by more than 13,000 people, including Sri Lankans in Canada, was being tabled in parliament.
The signatories of the petition have demanded that attention be paid to the Sri Lankan government's move to forcibly cremate the bodies of all those who die from the COVID-19 infection.
The petition states that there is no scientific evidence to support the Sri Lankan government's action and that the operation is outside the guidelines of the World Health Organization.
The petitioners urged the Canadian government to respect the religious and cultural practice of burying the Muslim and Christian minorities and to stop the forced cremation.
